Useful phrases and expressions

As a native speaker of French, I found it useful when observing other teachers to jot down some expressions and phrases that will help me communicate better with the students. Have a look!

Using French in class

In our department we thought about some expressions and phrases that we can constantly use with the students in class. You can ask the students to stick the phrases in the back of their books and translate them into English.

1) Ouvrez vos cahiers. Ecrivez le titre. Ecrivez la date.

2) Quelle est la date d’aujourd’hui? C’est le…….

3) Posez vos stylos. Ecoutez. Regardez.

Teaching with music

I like teaching a lot French using songs. "La ragga des pingouins" is one of my favourites for Yr 8 and 7. You can find the lyrics online and the video clip in youtube. The students just need to listen to the song and circle the correct word. Afterwards, the work in groups to try to learn the chorus by heart and then we do like a competition. Which group can sing the chorus best? If you don't have ICT in the classroon you can download the song and then burn it to a CD.
